IPL Photorejuvenation
For clients requiring cosmetic skin improvements or treatment for medical skin concerns we offer IPL photorejuvenation. IPL Photorejuvenation is a powerful treatment which works amazingly on a number of skin concerns.

Increased collagen production
IPL stimulates the lower skin layers, encouraging the fibroblasts there to produce more collagen to strengthen and plump the facial skin. This helps to improve the texture and elasticity of the skin, reducing wrinkles, shrinking pores and given the skin a firmer, fresher look.
Some will also find that as their pore size in the skin shrinks, the skin becomes a little less oily, reducing the risk of spots, blackheads and whiteheads.

Treatment of sunspots/liver spots and skin pigmentation
Sun spots (also known as ‘liver spots’) are the darker, pigmented areas that appear on lighter coloured skin types due to ageing and sun exposure. These lesions are known medically as lentigines. They are completely harmless but when they appear on the hands and face they can cause problems with self-esteem and confidence.
Their appearance can be made much less obvious with a series of IPL photorejuvenation treatments.
The pigment within lentigines absorbs more energy from intense pulsed light during IPL treatments than the surrounding skin allowing a very targeted treatment. The localised heating disrupts the pigment molecules without affecting the normal skin immediately adjacent to the area of pigmentation.
As the protein molecules that make up the pigments are broken apart, they are reabsorbed by the body, and the colour of the spot changes. With repeated photorejuvenation treatments, the spot starts to blend in with the surrounding skin, becoming much less noticeable.
IPL can also be used to even out the irregular pigmentation on the skin that can arise from sun exposure over the years. It works in the same way as described above.

Frequently asked questions
How does IPL Photorejuvenation work?
The IPL Photorejuvenation treatment emits a broad range of light waves on various areas of the skin to treat a number of skin concerns and improve the overall condition of the skin. The Intense Pulsed Light is attracted to the browns, reds and deeper collagen tissues. The heat generated from the light targets and vaporizes the browns, coagulates the reds, and heats the deeper collagen tissues. The body’s healing mechanisms then takes over and sloughs off the browns, absorbs the reds, and thickens the collagen fibres.
What is IPL good for?
IPL Photorejuvenation increases collagen production naturally, decreases redness and broken capillaries, lightens pigmentation and melasma, and treats acne, acne scarring and rosacea.
Is the treatment painful?
You may experience a slight sensation as the pulses of therapeutic light are passed over your skin. The sensation is very mild and tolerable. Topical anaesthetic cream is not needed but is available for clients who would like to numb the skin.
Who is IPL Photorejuvenation recommended for?
The treatment is suitable for men and women of any age who suffer from aging skin, sun spots, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, melasma, enlarges pores, acne, acne scars or broken capiliaries.
What areas of the body can be treated?
IPL Photorejuvenation is used to rejuvenate skin almost anywhere on the body. The areas most commonly treated are the face, neck, chest, upper back, forearms and hands.
How many treatments will I need?
Typically 5-6 treatments will be needed for the best outcomes, however, this will be discussed on an individual basis.
Are there any side effects?
After treatment, the treated area may appear flushed for a few hours but usually your skin will look more radiant. Clients with pigmentation may notice their brown spots may appear darker after the treatment. This darkness should flake off in 7-10 days.
What long term results can I expect from IPL Photorejuvenation?
After a series of IPL photorejuvenation treatments, you’ll see dramatic results in the texture and appearance of your skin. Pores will appear smaller, redness reduced, pigmentation and melasma diminished, and the surface of the skin will appear smoother and more evenly toned. IPL stimulates the growth of collagen fibroblasts to give your skin firmness and elasticity.
